Why Should I See an Orthodontist?
While every orthodontist is a dentist, not every dentist is an orthodontist. The distinction is in training; orthodontists complete additional schooling following their dental degree so they have an in-depth understanding of everything from common orthodontic problems to treating complex cases. That’s why it’s important to have an orthodontist create and supervise your teeth-straightening treatment.
Do You Accept Dental Insurance?
In addition to covering preventive and restorative dental care, many dental insurance providers cover a portion of the cost of orthodontic care. The good news is that we’re an insurance-friendly office, which means that the process of understanding and utilizing your benefits will be a breeze. Plus, we welcome several other financial solutions, including MassHealth, which can lower your out-of-pocket expenses too.
Does Straightening Teeth Hurt?
Toward the beginning of your orthodontic treatment, it’s normal to feel some soreness from the movement of your teeth. Although the sensation is temporary, many patients are interested in finding out if they can alleviate it even sooner or prevent it altogether. The answer is “yes!” To ease inflammation and discomfort, we recommend sipping on cool water, eating soft foods, like plain yogurt, and taking OTC pain medication as directed.
How Long Does Orthodontic Treatment Take?
Some treatment plans are 3+ years and others are only six months – it really depends on the complexity of your case! Of course, there are other factors that will play a role in the length of your teeth-straightening journey, including how well you comply with the guidelines provided. For example, if you have clear aligners but you consistently don’t wear them for 20+ hours a day, delays can occur. That’s why we strongly recommend making everything from the daily wear time to the dietary guidelines we provide a priority.
Are Traditional Braces My Only Option to Straighten My Teeth?
Far from it! At our Grafton orthodontic office, we offer multiple types of orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign, self-ligating braces, and ceramic braces. We can determine if you’re a candidate for any of these alternatives at your consultation and, if you are, review the pros of each with you so you can determine how you want to proceed.
